Mini / Micro Lot

اللوت المصغر والمتناهي الصغر (Mini & Micro Lot)

Trading sizes smaller than a standard lot; a mini lot equals 10,000 units and a micro lot equals 1,000 units, making them ideal for small-capital traders and beginners.

A mini lot and a micro lot are smaller contract sizes than a standard lot in forex trading, designed to allow traders with limited capital to participate in the market without requiring substantial margin.

A mini lot represents one-tenth of a standard lot, or 10,000 units of the base currency, while a micro lot represents one-tenth of a mini lot, or just 1,000 units. This scaling gives traders significant flexibility in fine-tuning their position sizes.

The monetary pip value decreases proportionally with lot size. While a pip on a standard lot is typically worth around 10 units of the quote currency, it equals approximately 1 unit in a mini lot, and about 0.10 units (one-tenth of a unit) in a micro lot.

Beginners are generally advised to start trading with micro or mini lots while learning and testing strategies, as this minimizes financial exposure while maintaining a live trading experience that reflects actual market movements.

A common mistake among some traders is assuming that smaller trade sizes eliminate the need for risk management. In reality, fundamental principles such as risk percentage and stop-loss placement remain essential regardless of the position size.

    Practical Example

Trading one micro lot on EUR/USD means controlling just 1,000 euros, making the pip value very small compared to that of a standard lot.
